After two years of litigation, members of the comedy group JLC reached an agreement in November with the estate of a former homeowner to divide the gold and platinum bars fairly between them.
Despite this, the police have previously been unable to answer whether the gold would be released.
"It is important to point out that the Police Authority has not had the task of determining the rightful owner of the goods, but rather of determining, based on the claims that have been received, whether there are sufficient grounds to release the goods," the police write in a press release.
Last week, the Supreme Court rejected claims from a group of pensioners who alleged that the gold came from a 1990s economic crime ring.
It was in the fall of 2023 that two craftsmen made the find while renovating the house in Mölndal, which was purchased by Carl Déman and Lucas Simonsson from JLC. Since then, several parties have been involved in the battle over the gold treasure.
