A police officer is being charged with misconduct after a high-profile honor killing, reports SVT Småland.

The young woman who was found murdered in Lessebo last May had told two police officers before her death that she had been raped by her father. The woman did not want to file a report herself. However, by law, police officers must report suspected crimes that they become aware of, even if the victim does not want to cooperate.

But the police officers in the current case did not file a rape report. And now charges have been brought against one of them. According to the prosecutor, the other police officer is no longer a suspect because she “did not actively participate in the interaction with a victim.”

The accused police officers deny any wrongdoing.

The woman's father and brother have been convicted of murder and aggravated assault - the father to life in prison and the brother to 16 years. According to Växjö District Court, it was an honor killing.
