A police officer in Örebro is suspected of strangling a woman and banging her head on the floor. He is now being charged with assault.

The suspected assault occurred at the 36-year-old police officer's home in November. The incident is not believed to have been related to the man's performance of his duties.

According to the indictment, he sat on the woman, strangled her and slammed her head on the floor.

After the incident, the Örebro District Court decided not to remand him. However, the decision was appealed by the prosecutor and the Court of Appeal decided to remand him.

The man denies assault but admits to breaking the woman's cell phone.
