A 25-year-old man has been shot by police after a car chase after he tried to flee and a "threatening situation" arose. The man is suspected of, among other things, violating the Knife Act.

At around 8 p.m. on Friday, the police began a car chase after a 25-year-old man refused to stop his car.

After just over 20 minutes, the police were able to stop the car on Highway 26 in Gislaved with the help of a spiked mat. The man then began to run from the scene and a “threatening situation” arose, according to the police.

"I interpret it as meaning that when the car has stopped, the man gets out of the car but does not remain by the car, but is still trying to escape on foot," says police spokesperson Angelica Israelsson Silfver.

In connection with this, the man was shot. The police do not want to answer how many shots were fired or where on the body the man was hit.

I can only say that a threatening situation has arisen that means the police patrol assesses that it must use effective fire to gain control of the situation, says Israelsson Silfver.

The man has been taken to hospital with an unclear condition of his injuries. The man is suspected of aggravated threat against a public servant, aggravated violation of the Knife Act and reckless driving.

The incident will now be investigated by the Department for Special Investigations.
