Kosiniak-Kamysz says that the governments of Poland and Sweden will finalize the deal by the end of the year, and that they aim to complete an agreement with Saab no later than the second quarter of 2026.
It concerns the submarine model A26, the so-called Blekinge class, in a deal worth around 10 billion zlotys, equivalent to 26 billion kronor. Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz states that five nations in addition to Sweden competed for the contract: France, Germany, Spain, Italy and South Korea.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson says in a press release:
"It is a strength not only for our countries' cooperation but for all of Sweden as a defense industry country. It is proof that the Swedish defense industry is strong. Saab has a world-leading submarine program."
Kristersson continues: "Together, Sweden and Poland will take greater responsibility for security in the Baltic Sea. We are now greatly deepening our political, defense and industrial cooperation."
Saab CEO Micael Johansson says in a press release that Saab is "honored to have been chosen," but the company emphasizes that it has not signed any contracts or received any orders yet.
Saab's stock rose after the announcement on Wednesday, increasing 2.5 percent on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
