The 53-year-old doctor, who worked at two clinics in Besançon, France, is convicted, despite his denials, of poisoning 30 patients between 2008 and 2017.
Twelve of them died on the operating table. The youngest victim, a four-year-old, survived after suffering two cardiac arrests during a routine tonsil surgery.
"I've been waiting for this for 17 years," said Amandine Iehlen, whose father died during kidney surgery in 2008, when the trial began in September.
An autopsy later showed that the father had died from an overdose of the anesthetic lidocaine.
According to prosecutors, the doctor's aim was to demonstrate his skills during the emergencies that arose as a result of the poisonings. He also allegedly wanted to discredit his colleagues.
