The 65-year-old was informed on Monday that the contract, which expires in December, would not be renewed.
Sundhage then informed that she did not intend to continue her collaboration with the national team, according to SFV.
"I would have loved to continue this journey. I am surprised by the Swiss Football Association's decision, but I respect it. I wish the team and Swiss football all the best - and that the passion we felt this summer continues," she tells the website.
In a statement, Switzerland also thanks them for the cooperation.
"Pia Sundhage took over the team in 2024 during a difficult period and led them through an unforgettable European Championship in our country. Together with the players and staff, she laid the foundation for a promising future in Swiss women's football. We thank Pia and her coaching staff and wish them all the best in the future," says SFV chairman Peter Knäbel.
Pia Sundhage took over the Swiss national team in 2024 and led them to the quarterfinals of this summer's home European Championship. She has previously been the national team captain for Sweden, Brazil and the United States.
