Peter Haber, who broke through broadly in "Sunes jul" and has played the police officer Martin Beck for almost 30 years, is in his daughter's apartment in the opening scene of the summer talk. She has sought answers about the family's history from her aunt and just come home.

The daughter heard how the Haber family called relatives in Germany every Christmas Eve and how "everything was supposed to be perfect". One year, Peter said he was hoarse even though he was not. Afterwards, he got a "good scolding" from his dad.

Everything she told me was true even though I had repressed it, but the feeling in my body came back. It hurt and I felt humiliated and sad. I got a lot of beatings from you as a child, dad, never my sister – but I got it.

He says that the summer talk is the conversation he should have had with his now deceased parents. Among the song choices are The Beatles, which his dad forbade him to listen to as a child. In an interview with Göteborgs-Posten Haber talks about how his upbringing has affected him.

I think it's stuck with me in the way that I often feel very small, like I'm standing in a corner, am small and scared. I become the little boy who doesn't dare.
