The Peruvian Congress voted on Tuesday to remove the country's interim president, José Jerí, in an impeachment trial.

With 75 votes in favor and 24 against, José Jerí was deemed unfit for office. Three members abstained from the vote.

The politically conservative José Jerí took over as president on October 10, after his corruption-accused predecessor Dina Boluarte was deposed in a similar process.

Jerí is also now accused of corruption linked to China.

The next presidential election is in April. On Wednesday, parliament will appoint a new interim president for the remainder of the term, which expires on July 28.
