In a time when others choose to deliberately turn off social media during the holiday, Per Persson's disconnection seems rather a consequence of his personality.
I get so irritated with people who say "you're so untechnical Persson". What the hell, I've tinkered with the car, I've lain under it and welded rust - I think that's technical.
Bläddrar hellre
As a musician, he leaves digital production and studio technology to others. He does have a smartphone, and he listens to music via Spotify, but he's not thrilled about releasing his own music there - CDs or vinyl records were more fun to browse through. But social media or Tiktok he has never tried, and he doesn't use a computer when he writes songs - he doesn't even own one.
I remember things. My computer is my skull, then you have to explain to your fellow musicians instead.
Instead of buying concert tickets, he goes to gigs where he's on the guest list. But when he wanted to buy a new jacket, he took help from his daughter to shop online. Others also buy his train tickets and book hotel rooms.
Går till banken
In the presentation of his "Sommar" on Sveriges Radio, on August 8, Per Persson says that he goes to the bank to "get help with things" and that he sees no reason to get swish.
Just over five years ago, he went to the bank office in Bollnäs to get a bank-id.
But then I had forgotten my driver's license and had no ID, then it didn't happen.
On the other hand, he goes to the bank and pays his bills. It works fine, he thinks.
Moreover, they have the local newspaper there, then I can sit and read. And they're nice to me.
"Brain rot" was crowned the word of the year by Oxford English Dictionary 2024. Even in Swedish, the expression is used to describe the state of someone who has overconsumed material on social media.
This summer, we will write about some people who, for various reasons, live disconnected.
