According to Bloomberg, the investigation will determine whether the attacks followed the legal processes required for them to be lawful.
Bloomberg reports that 58 attacks have been carried out on boats that the US alleges were used to transport drugs from South America to the US. Almost 200 people have been killed in the attacks.
The attacks have drawn criticism from human rights organizations and Democratic politicians, among others, and no evidence has been presented that the boats were actually transporting drugs. However, the decision to investigate the attacks is said to be internal.
