The sixth season, which was broadcast in 2022, was then marketed as "the end of an epic story". But now the series' creator Steven Knight announces that there will be a continuation.
It will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham Blitz, says the creator to BBC.
The sequel is a co-production between Netflix and BBC and two seasons with six episodes each have been ordered.
The series takes off in 1953. The new generation of Shelbys has taken the reins and it's going to be a hell of a ride, says Knight.
Some actors have not yet been announced and it is unclear whether Cillian Murphy will resume his role as gang leader Tommy Shelby. He is, however, involved as an executive producer for the new seasons.
A "Peaky Blinders" film with the title "The Immortal Man" is also in the works. It takes place at the beginning of the war with Murphy in the lead role along with, among others, Swedish Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan and Stephen Graham.
