An angel reveals itself to the shepherds on the wall in the defence committee's meeting room, next to old sabres, company signs and a large textile weave with corvettes. But now the members want to see something in the hall that also reflects women's role in the Defence Forces.

When five of the female members of the committee heard that some company or regimental shields would disappear from the meeting room's walls and, perhaps, be replaced by medallions with men, they spoke out. They wrote down their wish to have something on the walls that shows that women are a part of Sweden's defense since 1980.

– We have a general conscription today, with both men and women defending our security. It should also be reflected in the meeting room, says Gulan Avci (The Liberals), who together with Emma Berginger (Green party), Alexandra Anstrell (The Moderate Party), Hanna Gunnarsson (V) and Helén Pettersson (S) stands behind the letter that the committee has since supported.

They have some suggestions on what could come instead.

– We could have a portrait of the Crown Princess, our future monarch. She has after all done both basic and officer training. Another alternative could be a photo collage with pictures of women in the Defense Forces, pictures used to attract more women to become a part of the Defense Forces, says Gulan Avci.

The matter of new works is still under preparation.
