The US president stated over the weekend that an agreement with Iran has been "largely" negotiated and that only the final details remain to be discussed.

But several question marks remain about Iran's nuclear program, among other things, after conflicting statements from Iran, and Trump wrote on Sunday that he had told his negotiators "not to rush into a deal, and that time is on our side."

On Truth Social, he wrote that until an agreement is signed, the United States will maintain its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, where the United States stops all ships heading to and from Iranian ports.

Question marks about nuclear program

Earlier on Sunday, the news site Axios reported, citing a US source, that in a 60-day ceasefire agreement, the US would, among other things, lift its blockade of Iranian ports and issue certain exemptions from sanctions to allow Iran to sell oil freely. In return, Iran would open the Strait of Hormuz and remove its mines.

The major stumbling block on the nuclear issue also remains, and US and Iranian accounts diverge.

“They must understand that they cannot develop or produce nuclear weapons,” Trump wrote in his post, echoing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He wrote on X that the two leaders agreed that “Iran must dismantle its nuclear program and remove highly enriched uranium from its territory.”

Different views on Lebanon

Iran, for its part, stated on Saturday that the nuclear program is not part of the current agreement, and that the issue will be discussed separately.

"At this stage, we will not discuss the details of the nuclear issue. We have prioritized an urgent issue for all of us: ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said on Iranian television on Saturday.

However, Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on X that Israel “will reserve the right to act against threats on all fronts, including Lebanon.” He said Trump had supported that view.

Iran has not officially commented on Trump's statement, but in a comment, state-run Press TV wrote that the war was coming to an end and that "the enemy did not succeed in achieving any of its goals."
