The Malmö police have arrested eleven youths within two weeks, who are now in custody, suspected of having committed or being on their way to commit serious violent crimes.
The perpetrators are mainly young people who lack consequential thinking, says Stenkula.
During the night leading up to Friday, four youths were arrested after a suspected explosion in the Rosengård district. Earlier in the week, two 17-year-olds were arrested with firearms, and both are suspected of preparing for murder.
There is a large flow of weapons and hand grenades. Now we are seeing an escalation of serious violence, and to some extent, the events are connected. They are also linked to national conflicts, and therefore, we are working nationally as well, says Stenkula.
Targeting criminals
The violent crimes are mainly directed against individuals with a criminal background. The conflicts revolve around narcotics, money laundering, and organized crime.
Even if Malmö's most criminal individuals are not present here, the crimes are directed against them. It can involve both people in their vicinity or companies they have connections to.
The youths who commit the violent crimes mainly come from other parts of the country.
They come from western Sweden and further up in the country and have been given the task of committing the crimes, among other things, through social platforms.
Hand grenades across the border
The Malmö police also see a connection to Denmark.
We have arrested adult travelers from Denmark who have transported weapons and hand grenades. There is a constant flow of narcotics and money across the border. Denmark is part of our situational awareness. Therefore, we also have close cooperation with the Danish police.
According to Stenkula, the police are working intensively to prevent further violent crimes from being committed. During the past six months, they have prevented around 50 violent crimes in Malmö.
We are working with both covert and open methods. We monitor different locations, set up cameras, and pinpoint criminals. Over the past 14 days, we have spoken to about sixty criminals to intervene against these individuals.
