The outbreak has been ongoing since March 15 and the death toll stands at 512. In the last 24 hours alone, 13 children have died, the Southeast Asian country's health authority said on Saturday.

Bangladeshi authorities have taken emergency measures since the beginning of April, and thanks to a major vaccination effort in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN children's agency UNICEF and the vaccine partnership Gavi, around 18 million children have been vaccinated.

But authorities say it will take many months before the effects of the vaccinations are noticeable.
