Among the dead are 19 women and children, according to healthcare workers for AP. According to employees at Shifa hospital, where most of the bodies were taken, 14 of them were killed in an attack on a residential area in the southern part of Gaza City. One of them was a nurse who worked at the hospital.
In another Israeli attack, eight Palestinians were killed when projectiles hit outside a clinic at a refugee camp in the central part of the area. The death toll includes two women and two children, according to al-Awda hospital. A further 22 people were injured.
On Sunday afternoon, Israel's military also announced that the offensive against Gaza City is being expanded.
"Forces from the 36th division have begun their entry into Gaza City", the military writes in a post on Telegram.
Israel's expanded offensive against Gaza City, which began on Monday, includes both air strikes and ground forces where the country wants to take control of the territory's largest city. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes as a result of the offensive.
The escalation has been condemned, among others, by the UN, European countries and the King of Spain.
