More than 200 Ukrainian civilians, many of them vulnerable, are still in the Ukrainian frontline town of Tchasiv Yar, according to Ukraine's military.

The strategically important military hub in the eastern Donetsk region has been under attack since 2022 and its buildings have been largely destroyed.

Most of them (who are left) are elderly people, individuals with disabilities and those who take care of them, says a military spokesperson.

Before Russia launched the full-scale invasion, around 12,000 people lived in Tchasiv Yar.

It is no longer possible for the Ukrainian military administration to organize shelters or distribute food to the remaining residents, according to the spokesperson, due to Russian hostilities and "the enemy's use of drones".
