Several local organizations estimate that around 135 people died in connection with the riot and unrest in the city of Nzérékoré.
Shortly after their reports, Guinea's military-led government announced that those spreading unconfirmed information may be arrested.
"I warn that all those who engage in such behavior will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law", says Justice Minister Yaya Kairaba Kaba in a video on Facebook.
According to the government, at least 56 people died in the turmoil that erupted during a football match.
The riot started in connection with a disputed penalty situation when angry supporters stormed the pitch. Local media describe that the penalty situation enraged supporters, who then began throwing stones. Then, security guards responded by using tear gas.
