At least 1,010 humanitarian aid workers were killed worldwide between 2023 and 2025. From 2020 to 2022, the figure was 377.
This is not an accidental escalation - it is a breakdown in protection, UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher told the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
In 2024, 383 people were killed in incidents related to the distribution of supplies, a record in this context.
They died in clearly marked convoys and on missions coordinated with local authorities, Fletcher said.
The most aid workers have been killed in Gaza, where more than 560 aid workers have lost their lives in the last three years.
