A month and a half ago, 25-year-old My disappeared while on her way home from a night out on Boxing Day. She was found murdered the next day. The murder has touched and engaged many people, which is why the family decided to open Thursday's funeral ceremony to the public.
"The loss is bottomless, but in the stories about My, her light lives on," her family wrote to TT on Wednesday.
Hundreds of people gathered in the church to say their final goodbyes. All the pews were filled and even the stands had to be used to accommodate everyone who wanted to attend.
Flowers and hearts
On and around the coffin were flower arrangements and wreaths, some shaped like hearts. Several pictures of My were displayed.
One of those who had made it to the church was a 25-year-old woman who did not want to give her name. She came from northern Sweden but was visiting Stockholm and wanted to show her support for the family, she said after the ceremony.
I thought it was nice to say goodbye, and to think about her.
Want to show support
Delmon Haffo, a Moderate local politician in Salem municipality, where Rönninge is located, was also there to show his support. He was not surprised by the large turnout.
Many people have been affected by this, not only in Salem and Rönninge but in society at large, all over Sweden. This simply must not happen.
Engaged thousands
The murder in Rönninge, Salem municipality, has engaged thousands and brought men's violence against women and the role of psychiatry to the forefront.
A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the discovery of My and is being held on suspicion of murder and aggravated assault. He has admitted assault but denies murder. He has previously been convicted of aggravated child pornography and attempted kidnapping.
