The municipality's preschools, elementary schools, and high schools are open as usual this week, writes Örebro municipality on its website.

We know that it is important to stay open and provide opportunities for people to meet and be together. This applies to children, students, and staff, says Director of Education Katarina Arkehag, who is responsible for the municipality's preschools and schools.

Assistance

She also says that the municipality's schools have had training exercises on how staff should act in the event of ongoing deadly violence. In such training, staff are trained on which rooms to lock themselves in, division of responsibilities, how to inform others, and so on.

We believe that it is important for our staff to receive this training. We had an incident, a knife attack, at an elementary school a few years ago, and after that, the staff said that the training helped them incredibly much, says Katarina Arkehag.

The incident occurred in the spring of 2023 when a teenager was attacked outdoors on school grounds.

Remains Closed

The adult education, which is located at Campus Risbergska where at least eleven people were killed in Tuesday's shooting, will remain closed for the rest of the week.

On Wednesday, we will gather all staff at the adult education and provide resources, says the municipality's Director of Upper Secondary School and Labor Market Nima Poushin to Nerikes Allehanda.

We will also inform about the support available for adult students.

The elementary school Entréskolan in Örebro will also be closed on Wednesday.

From Wednesday onwards, Örebro municipality will fly the flag at half-mast.
