In an open letter, Orbán demands that Ukraine immediately reopen the Druzhba oil pipeline that carries Russian oil to Hungary. He accuses President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of wanting to drag Hungary into war with Russia and conspiring for regime change in Budapest.
“You, Brussels and the Hungarian opposition are coordinating your efforts to get a pro-Ukrainian government in Hungary,” Orbán said, clearly pressured by a growing opposition ahead of the country's parliamentary elections on April 12.
The damage and closure of the Druzhba pipeline have led Hungary to refuse to approve the EU's new billion-euro aid to Ukraine and new EU sanctions against Moscow. However, according to the European Commission, Hungary can easily obtain enough oil in other ways.
