Several hundred people are still missing on the island of Sumatra, which has been hit particularly hard by this year's monsoon rains. According to the country's disaster agency, more than a million people have been evacuated.
In addition to Indonesia, all of Sri Lanka, southern Thailand and northern Malaysia have been hit by heavy and prolonged rains. In Sri Lanka, the death toll rose to 410 on Tuesday, with more than 330 missing. 1.5 million people have been affected in various ways by what is described as the country's worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami.
Many residents have been forced to cling to rooftops while awaiting rescue and entire villages have been isolated.
According to an AFP analysis of weather data from the US weather agency NOAA, several affected regions in Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar, as well as parts of Cambodia and Laos, have received their highest total rainfall during the month of November since 2012.
The floodwaters have receded in many places, but hundreds of thousands of people have had to flee their homes and are struggling to access clean water and food, among other things.
