An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested, and police confirm that shots were fired during the arrest. However, it is unclear whether the suspect is injured, according to police.

He is being held in custody and is not being treated in hospital.

The deceased person was found as police continued into the school to secure the premises.

The total injury picture we are seeing is two seriously injured people who we received from the medical services and one additional injured person, says Alriksson.

According to Region Västmanland, the two seriously injured boys are between 12 and 17 years old.

The injured people had left the school when the police entered, according to Alriksson.

Link to two addresses

The shooting suspect has been linked to two addresses in Fagersta, where police have conducted searches.

We have no reason at this time to believe that there are multiple perpetrators.

The police have opened a special incident in connection with the crime. According to Alriksson, there are a large number of witnesses whom the police will interview.

"That's why we can't give out too much information because we don't want to influence witnesses," he says.

There is still no known motive for the attack, according to police.

Crisis support available

The alarm came in just after 2 p.m. on Friday and was about suspected ongoing deadly violence. Fagersta Municipality later announced that a perpetrator with a sword had entered Brinell School and injured several people.

The school, as well as several nearby schools, were evacuated during the afternoon.

During the press conference, the chairwoman of the municipal board, Åsa-Märta Sjöström, called the attack "a very serious and shocking event."

Our thoughts go primarily to the students, she says.

Crisis support is available and the municipality has also established a memorial site.
