Team Hasselborg has had a brilliant start to the European Championship in curling in Lojo, Finland. After the weekend's matches, the team stood at three wins out of three possible.
And on Monday, the winning streak continued.
The Swedish women faced Lithuania and Denmark, but neither of them could beat Team Hasselborg. In the morning, the Swedes secured a planned win with 8–5 against Lithuania. But in the afternoon, it became a bit more challenging.
Denmark kept pace with Sweden for a long time, but before the tenth and final round, Sweden only needed to ensure that Denmark didn't take any points to win the match. But it became more dramatic than it had to be.
"Adrenaline rush"
It all depended on Anna Hasselborg, who with the very last stone had to excel. And the Swedish skipper didn't falter.
Of course, it was a little adrenaline rush, but I still felt pretty sure I'd set it, says Hasselborg in SVT.
Sweden won in the end with 7–5 and looks set to easily secure a playoff spot. With four rounds left, Sweden leads the group stage. The top four teams advance to the semifinals.
Team Hasselborg has two European Championship gold medals, from 2018 and 2019, on their merit list from before.
Dramatic win for Team Edin
There was also a Swedish win on the men's side in an all-Nordic encounter. With the very last stone, skipper Team Edin could snatch victory with 9–8 against Norway.
Thus, Team Edin stands at three wins and two losses after five matches, and is very much in the running for semifinal spots.
