A British bomb, which weighed 250 kilograms, was discovered in the central part of the city on Tuesday during work to restore a bridge over the Elbe River that collapsed in 2024.
The bomb discovery led to the evacuation of 18,000 people, and more than 400 police officers, together with the fire department, were involved in securing the bomb.
On Wednesday afternoon, police announced the bomb had been defused and then destroyed in a controlled explosion.
Dresden was heavily bombed by the Allies over two days in February 1945, when up to 25,000 residents were killed and large parts of the old city center were destroyed.
