The first discovery of the leaf flatworm, which has the Latin name Obama nungara, was made in a plantation in Malmö last November.
Now, researchers at, among others, the Natural History Museum have made a first gene sequencing of the flatworm, reports SR's Science Radio.
The result shows that the individual comes from an Argentine genetic variant called Argentina 1, which is the most widespread in Europe.
Obama nungara spreads through trade with garden plants in Europe, but it is unclear how it came from South America to Europe.
If the flatworm spreads widely and kills large quantities of earthworms, it risks having a significant impact on the earth's fertility.
