False Hijacking Alert Prompts Fighter Jet Response and Temporary Nuremberg Airport Closure

A plane carrying German tourists accidentally sent a distress signal reporting that it had been hijacked. The alarm prompted Croatia to scramble fighter jets and temporarily close Nuremberg Airport.

The plane carrying tourists was on its way from Corfu, Greece, to Nuremberg when several European countries received an alert that it had been hijacked.

But the alert had been sent by mistake, and the pilots could not be reached by radio afterwards. Croatia and then Germany sent fighter jets to intercept and escort the passenger plane.

Nuremberg Airport was cordoned off after the alert, but once the plane had landed and the situation was deemed under control, the danger was over.
