There is nothing strange about it, says the bankruptcy trustee Mikael Kubu to SVT Västerbotten and adds that it is routine in bankruptcies to lay off all staff.
To Sveriges Radio's Ekot, which first reported on the layoffs, says IF Metall's local coordinator Lena Lundgren that a notice of the layoffs has been sent to all staff.
The notice was expected after Northvolt's bankruptcy application on March 12. The company has around 5,000 employees in Skellefteå, Västerås, and Stockholm.
For the majority, it's one to two months of notice and salary guarantee. Above all, it's an incredibly heavy message to receive. It's already been tough days and this makes it even heavier and more downbeat, says Lena Lundgren to Ekot.
The bankruptcy trustee Mikael Kubu wants to maintain production, which could mean that employees get to keep their jobs. How many it would involve, and if it's even possible to continue operating, is unclear. A decision is expected this week.
