Assets linked to Denaro have been seized in a wide range of countries: Italy, Andorra, Gibraltar, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Monaco, Spain, Switzerland and the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the raids.
Matteo Messina Denaro - also known as "the last godfather" - was one of the most ruthless leaders of Cosa Nostra. Notably, the murders of anti-mafia judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992 caused an outcry, as did the kidnapping and murder of a twelve-year-old boy who was the son of a witness in the Falcone case.
Denaro was arrested in 2023, after 30 years on the run from justice. He died a few months later.
