Norway's Minister of Education, Kari Nessa Nordtun, tells BBC that it has been "a problem for many years that the celebration and exam period coincide".

Besides the celebration affecting school results, the celebration has become strongly commercialized and exclusive, she believes.

Nowadays, a single party bus can have a budget of three million Norwegian kronor, which means that many students cannot afford to participate.

Even Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has said that the party bus tradition has gone off the rails.

The plan is now to ensure that the celebration is moved to the period after the exam.

The party bus tradition dates back to the beginning of the 1980s. According to tradition, "russers", people who are in their final year of upper secondary school, then rent a bus that they drive around and party in for several weeks.
