The Norwegian government wants a temporary change to the alcohol laws during this summer's World Cup.

Many of the matches, including two of Norway's group-stage matches, are played late at night in Europe, which makes it difficult for beer-hungry supporters who want to watch them at a venue.

Norwegian liquor licenses generally do not allow sales late at night.

We are working on a solution, Health Minister Jan Christian Vestre tells TV2, and he hopes for a change "in good time" before the start of the World Cup.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said before Christmas that politicians must make a change.

It is a big social phenomenon in Norway that we watch the matches together, and that it is possible to have a beer then, and you must be able to do that until the final whistle, he told NRK in December.
