There were tens of thousands of Norwegian supporters who braved the rainy weather in Oslo to watch the match on one of the city's many big-screen displays.

And it was an even match between the two teams. Norway took the lead and the joy knew no bounds. Then it turned around, and after extra time England had the upper hand and won 2–1.

Fireworks in front of the castle

But despite the exodus and the fact that it was almost 2 am when the match ended, many people wanted to continue the party. People gathered at the castle to row, set off fireworks and sing the national anthem.

One of them was Jonas Minde Binderö, who watched all of Norway's matches during the World Cup tournament.

"Of course you're a little disappointed that it's over, but it's been a magical summer and a fantastic atmosphere. You see how happy people are even when we've lost," he says, looking out over the sea of people.

“Sweden has a lot to learn”

Some who still traveled from Stockholm to take part in the Norwegian World Cup craze are Adam Thorell and Oskar Eriksson. They had hoped for a victory celebration but are still impressed by the joy of the Norwegian fans.

Everyone you meet feels such incredible pride. I think we Swedes have a lot to learn from that, says Oskar Eriksson.

Even though the national team's adventure is over for now, Norwegian fans seem to be feeling confident - and perhaps there is reason for that. Many of the players in the World Cup squad have several years ahead of them in their careers and in just two years there will be a European Championship.

"There is so much talent on this team. I am sure this is just the beginning," says Jonas Minde Binderö.
