In the spring, it became known that the World Championship in February-March made a huge economic loss. The company behind the championship expected a surplus of 15-20 million kronor, but instead appears to be backing down with over 30 million kronor.
I am shocked by the results presented. Then you become shocked afterwards that there is no leadership and they point fingers at each other, says Petter Northug to NRK.
The fiasco has, among other things, led to layoffs and cutbacks at the association.
Right now, the ski association is on its way to falling off a cliff and it does not seem like there are any leaders who are dealing with this at all. Nobody cares, says the legend.
Espen Graff, communications manager at the Norwegian ski association, believes that Northug is too vague in his criticism for it to be responded to, but agrees that the economic result came like a bolt from the blue.
We share Northug's perception that the deficit is both surprising and incomprehensible. The management of the World Championship company must themselves answer how this could happen, and a thorough review will hopefully give us answers.
The company behind the World Championship is being demanded a total of around 130 million kronor from a large number of creditors. The Norwegian ski association owns 60 percent of the World Championship company and has made a claim of 7.5 million kronor. But if the company goes bankrupt, many creditors will likely be left without money.
