North Korea has launched several missiles, according to South Korea's military. This happens days before the arrival of US President Donald Trump to the Korean Peninsula.

The North Korean launch is the first in several months, but comes just barely two weeks after the country's dictator Kim Jong-Un showed off a new long-range rocket with the capacity to carry several nuclear warheads.

The rockets that have now been fired are said to be made for shorter distances. They are reported to have flown around 350 kilometers northeast, but it is unclear where they landed.

The test firing takes place just days before the US President Donald Trump arrives in South Korea, which will be his first visit to the region during his second term. Trump will hold bilateral meetings with, among others, China's Xi Jingping and South Korea's Lee Jae-Myung ahead of a conference within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Apec.

Corrected: In an earlier version, an incorrect landing site for the rockets was stated, as well as an error regarding Trump's schedule.
