After 18 holes, Alex Norén had a top position in the British Open.
On a windy Friday, the 42-year-old fell back after a 75-round and is two over par total.
Norén was still the only Swede out of a total of seven who made the cut.
Alex Norén was tied for fourth after going through the first round of the major tournament British Open at Royal Troon on two strokes under par.
On Thursday, the players had to put up their umbrellas, but on Friday, the wind was the big challenge in terms of external factors. It affected the game significantly – it was difficult for the players to choose a club when the ball was to be played onto the green.
An extremely frustrating day, says Alex Norén to Viaplay.
Tough for Åberg
Norén started with a birdie on the second hole, but then it was over with the fun. It became bogey on two par 5 holes during his first nine holes, and during the second half of the round, the 42-year-old had to note three more bogeys. With 75 strokes for the day and a total of +2, Norén falls back on the leaderboard.
The Swedish world number four Ludvig Åberg gets the weekend off. Åberg ended up five over par for the day and +9 overall.
The 24-year-old had mainly problems with putting, but also ended up in a bush on the ninth hole and got a penalty stroke. With +9, Åberg finished far from the cut.
Eight years after Henrik Stenson in 2016 became the first Swedish male golfer to win a major tournament through the British Open title on Royal Troon, the 48-year-old was back on the course on the Scottish west coast.
"Equal Miseries"
The adventure this time ended already after two rounds. Stenson – who has been playing on the Saudi Arabia-sponsored LIV tour since 2022 – went through the first round on 77 strokes (+6) and on Friday it became 73 strokes, two over par.
With a total of +8, Stenson missed the cut, which ended up at +6.
It's equal miseries. I'm pretty exhausted on energy and didn't play very well, says Stenson to Viaplay.
Alexander Björk finished Friday ten over par, and +12 overall.
The other Swedes who have done their part for this time in Scotland: Vincent Norrman +7, Charlie Lindh +8, and Jesper Svensson +11.
Ireland's Shane Lowry is leading in the clubhouse on -7 after two played rounds.
