The meeting is taking place in Torshavn on the Faroe Islands. Denmark's Mette Frederiksen, the Faroe Islands' Aksel V Johannesen, Greenland's Jens-Frederik Nielsen, and Iceland's Kristrún Frostadóttir are on site. Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre is participating remotely.
"Even though we meet in different parts of the world, it is natural that we in this group of countries meet to discuss the current security situation in the Arctic and North Atlantic", says Frederiksen in a press release.
The top-level meeting takes place against the backdrop of increasing tensions in the Arctic. President Donald Trump's repeated statements about the US needing to take over Greenland, citing national security, create concern. But China and Russia also have significant interests in the region.
Both Greenland and the Faroe Islands are self-governing parts of Denmark.
