A Ukrainian man suspected of sabotaging the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea has been extradited to Germany, prosecutors told AFP.

The Ukrainian was arrested in Brindisi, Italy, in August. Since then, there have been many legal challenges before extradition could finally take place.

The 49-year-old suspect arrived in Germany on Thursday and is expected to make an initial court appearance in Karlsruhe on Friday, according to prosecutors.

Another Ukrainian suspect was arrested in Poland at the end of September. He will not be extradited to Germany, a Polish court recently ruled.

Leaks were discovered in September 2022 from the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, which run from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. It was later confirmed that the pipelines had been blown up.
