Nobel prize fields
Prizes are awarded in Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences. This week is called Nobel Week 4th-14th October, where all awards except the Economic Sciences prize are presented (which will be presented on Monday next week).
Nobel Day
Nobel Day 2024 falls on Tuesday, December 10th, week 50, and is celebrated in memory of Swedish inventor Alfred Bernhard Nobel. On this day, Nobel Prize winners receive their awards in Stockholm, except for the Peace Prize, which is presented in Oslo, Norway.
Why is the Nobel Peace Prize awarded in Norway?
When Alfred Nobel was alive, Sweden and Norway were in a union. However, it is not certain why Alfred Nobel chose to have the Peace Prize awarded in Norway. Even after the union resolved in 1905, the prize has continued to be awarded in Norway.
Nobel Banquet
The most famous celebration party is the Nobel Banquet itself, held at the City Hall in Stockholm, where the winners enjoy a delicious menu from Sweden's best chefs. If you're interested, you can take a Sunday tour and see where the festivities take place.
