The responsible minister has now given the assignment to the Energy Agency to investigate why no one wanted to bid on the three current parks that the Danish state had pointed out.
Even Swedish Vattenfall was among the interested parties, but has, just like the other potential wind power builders, pointed out that the deals couldn't be made profitable. In the current projects, no government subsidies are provided.
The three current projects would, if built, be able to produce at least 3 GW in effect. The bidding period for the next 3 GW ends in April next year. Together, they constitute Denmark's largest investment in offshore wind power. For comparison, a nuclear reactor produces approximately 1 GW in effect.
"Today's result gives no reason for any greater optimism for the next three parks", says Climate and Business Minister Lars Aagaard in a press release and continues:
"Let me make one thing completely clear. More offshore wind will be built in Denmark. It was the government's goal yesterday, and it is still today".
