It was the first time that Paco Rassat was on the podium in the World Cup. His second best result was sixth place in the premiere in Levi on Sunday. He was in 14th place after the first run.
"It's crazy, a dream come true. It's always easier to come to a competition with good results behind me, but I never thought I could win," says Rassat in the victory interview on Viaplay.
Second-place finisher Armand Marchant, Belgium, also took his first podium finish. He was ninth after the first run.
The leader after the first run, Atle Lie McGrath, Norway, finished third.
Kristoffer Jakobsen came second in Gurgl last year, but this year he went out on an inner ski in the first run. The 31-year-old will therefore not have a result for the fourth World Cup competition in a row, including the last two this spring.
Fabian Ax Schwartz was 23rd after the first run and was allowed to run the second. But then the Swede stumbled – just like he did in the premiere in Levi.
