The ladies now have something similar to the classic German-Austrian ski jumping week: their own mini tour with two instead of four competitions. The prestige and prize money, however, are still at completely different levels.
The men receive 3,000 Swiss francs (equivalent to approximately 37,000 kronor) for a win in the qualifying round. I got a bag with shower gel, shampoo, and four towels, says Freitag, who won Monday's qualifying round in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in an interview with ARD as reported by the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung.
The winner's checks for a total victory in each mini tour also differ. Slovenian Nika Prevc, who won the ladies' two-day tour (competitions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberstdorf), was awarded around 115,000 kronor for her win. The winner of the men's ski jumping week (also competitions in Austrian Innsbruck and Bischofshofen) receives over 1.2 million kronor.
Heinz Kuttin, national team manager for the German ladies' ski jumping team, agrees with Selina Freitag that more should be done.
A lot of positive things have happened, but the ladies also want to earn some money. That's where you have to take the next step, says Kuttin.
