In the district court, a total of eleven people were convicted in the case, but nine of them are now acquitted.
"Several of them were indeed present when the container with cocaine was broken open, but according to the Court of Appeal, it is not sufficiently proven that they knew or suspected that it was drugs they were going to pick up," the court writes in a press release.
However, one person is sentenced to seven years in prison for a particularly serious drug offense.
At the same time, another man is sentenced to life imprisonment. He is convicted both for involvement in the cocaine case, as well as for attempted murder in connection with a shooting in Malmö last fall. The shooting was carried out by a 13-year-old boy on behalf of the man.
The record-breaking cocaine seizure in the port of Norvik was made on April 18, 2024, after the police conducted a search of a man and a woman who were looking at containers leaving the port. In a check of one of the containers, customs inspectors found the cocaine, 1.3 tons, which is described as the largest seizure in Sweden to date.
Gang leader Ismail Abdo, also known as "Jordgubben", is suspected of having organized the transport. However, since he is not in Sweden, he has not been able to be prosecuted in the case.
