Japan's Nikkei 225 index soared 4.1 percent after it became clear that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi had won the country's recent election.

Takaichi called the snap election, which was held on Sunday, in an attempt to capitalize on an early surge in popularity after she took office as Japan's first female prime minister in October.

The broader Japanese Topix was also climbing, up 2.5 percent.

South Korea's Kospi also showed a clear increase, rising 4.1 percent in Monday trading.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng was up 1.5 percent. The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges were also up, 1.2 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively.
