According to a press release from Congress, a vote will be held in August on excluding opposition parties from future elections.

There will never be elections held here that they can use to take over power, says Speaker Gustavo Porras.

Earlier this week, President Daniel Ortega said no more elections would be held in the country. According to Porras, elections will be held, but without those the government considers “traitors” and “coup plotters.”

Since Ortega last came to power, he has crushed the country's political opposition and rewritten the constitution. As recently as January last year, he and his wife Rosario Murillo were given control of the entire state apparatus through an amendment to the constitution.
