Last year, only two new permits for wind power on land and at sea, according to reports from the industry organization Svensk vindenergi.
Of 16 applications for land-based wind power that were decided in 2024, one project was granted partial permission. In 2023, twelve permits were granted.
For sea-based wind power, 14 applications were decided last year, with one permit granted.
The main reasons for only two permits being granted are, according to Svensk vindenergi, municipal vetoes and objections from the Defence Forces.
It is extremely serious that so much new electricity production is stopped when the expansion needs to increase significantly. The government has the opportunity to quickly improve the conditions by changing the forms of municipal veto and getting the promised incentives to municipalities, neighbors, and local communities in place", says Ina Müller, industry lawyer at Svensk Vindenergi, according to a press release.
