Guardiola and his Manchester City, who have won the Premier League four years in a row, have fallen into a slump that probably no one could have foreseen.
In the last twelve matches, the team has only won one match – and lost nine.
We must find a way, step by step, to get back, says Guardiola to BBC.
"Not good enough"
But the losses are taking their toll on the players. Norwegian goal king Erling Braut Haaland has scored 13 goals, but only one in the last six matches.
It affects us all, it affects me. I have not been good enough. I have not delivered for City this season. I must step up and work harder. Simply put, become better, says he to Viaplay.
Against Aston Villa away, the team was on the back foot from the start.
It didn't even take 20 seconds before Manchester City conceded a free shot, but second-choice goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who replaced injured Ederson, saved Jhon Duran's shot.
A quarter of an hour later, Duran got his revenge. On a new free shot, he outsmarted Ortega.
Worsening injury situation
Manchester City was weak in the center and Aston Villa created new opportunities all the time. In the 56th minute, Morgan Rogers, who set up the first goal, made it 2–0.
Phil Foden reduced the score in stoppage time, but City didn't get any closer.
Aston Villa thus passed City in the table and went up to fifth place.
As if a new loss wasn't bad enough, Pep Guardiola announced before the match that the team's injury situation has worsened further. Portuguese national team defender Ruben Diaz is expected to be out for a month with a muscle injury he sustained in the derby against United.
We must get players back. We only have one center-back, then it's tough, says Guardiola.
