The reports come just days after the UN established that nearly 3,000 people have been killed in similar clashes in and around Goma, the provincial capital of North Kivu.
The Rwanda-backed militia M23 and Rwandan troops captured Goma in early February and have since advanced southwards. Last week, it was reported that M23 has set its sights on the capital Kinshasa, located hundreds of miles west.
The militia's advance has led to the deaths of thousands of people and allegations of extrajudicial executions. Thousands of Congolese have been driven from their homes.
The mineral-rich Congo-Kinshasa has been plagued by conflicts involving dozens of armed groups over the past three decades. On Tuesday, reports also emerged that at least 55 civilians were killed in a series of attacks that the Congolese militia Codeco is accused of. Armed men allegedly attacked and burned villages and refugee camps for internally displaced persons in Ituri in northeastern Congo-Kinshasa.
