The 25-year-old is between two seasons – but the prizes keep coming for the pole vaulter.
In early December, the athlete Armand Duplantis was awarded Svenska Dagbladet's Bragdguldet for the second time in his career.
Now he is being awarded again.
The pole vaulter has been named the world's athlete of the year by the British BBC.
I am so honored to receive this award, says Duplantis.
Unfortunately, I cannot be present, as I am in the USA and training for the upcoming season.
This is the second time a Swedish athlete has received the award. Björn Borg received the award in 1979.
Earlier this year, Armand Duplantis won, among other things, the European Championship gold in Rome, Olympic Games gold in Paris, and was named Europe's athlete of the year.
The athletics year has, of course, resulted in a world record. He reached 6.25 meters when he secured his second Olympic Games gold, and then improved the height to 6.26 at a Diamond League competition in Polish Chorzów.
Among the nominees for BBC's award were Simone Biles, gymnastics, Caitlin Clark, basketball, Sifan Hassan, athletics, and Leon Marchand, swimming.
